Maybe you’ve noticed the link to Mothers Fighting For Others on my sites before, maybe you haven’t. I didn’t know much about them either. I was introduced to them thanks to the internet and more specifically Twitter. Jeff Turner (@respres) is a legend amongst real estate folk. He’s taught me a lot in the short time I’ve know him and I knew he was married to Rocky Turner (@headmutha), but I didn’t know much about Rocky. I heard her name a lot in the real estate circles I travel in, so I got curious and followed her on Twitter. Soon, I realized why everyone talked about her so much. A caring and compassionate woman driven with purpose in life. Much like Jeff has inspired me in my real estate practices, Rocky was inspiring to me in her real life practices.
As I learned more about Mothers Fighting For Others and Inspire The Child, I learned more about who Rocky Turner is. I’ve only spoken to her here and there on Twitter, but she truly is out to change the world; one child at a time. Just spend 15 minutes on the Mothers Fighting For Others website reading some of her posts and you’ll see what I mean. Her goal of giving these kids what their mothers couldn’t is beautiful in its true simplicity. My own mother means the world to me, why shouldn’t these kids feel that from someone too?
I think their site says it best:
Mothers Fighting For Others is dedicated to providing orphans and vulnerable children with opportunities their parents would have provided, if they only could; a loving and nurturing environment and a quality education, so they can learn, thrive and achieve their highest potential.
Add Hugh Jackman to the mix.
You know Hugh Jackman from his work in movies such as the X-Men series and Van Helsing. The guy played Wolverine, one of the baddest comic book super-heroes of all time (in my opinion). What I didn’t know, was his giving-side.
Mr. Jackman has made an offer the world can’t refuse – tell him why a charity deserves $100,000 of his money in 140 characters or less (Twitter’s limit) and if you convince him, the money will go to that charity. I had the pleasure of meeting Rocky once In Real Life. It was a *very* short visit but you could tell she was someone special. What she does for those kids is nothing short of amazing. ALL the ladies at MFFO are awesome human beings.
This organization rocks.
Jay – Thanks for stopping by. I look forward to meeting her and Jeff at some point. The thing that gets me about MFFO is that there’s a ton of great charities in this world, but when you see or hear or read Rocky talking about it or hear the pride coming out of Jeff, you know that she’s doing something great and for all the right reasons. It just hits me in a certain way and makes me want to do more in my life.
