Where Did The Summertime Go San Antonio?

Popsicle

I feel like a popsicle.

When I first moved to Los Angeles from my native Pennsylvania, I can remember being on the Sunset Strip one night and seeing all sorts of people in parkas. Full on winter style parkas with fur lined hoods that went well below the waistline. The kind explorers wore on their trips to the North Pole. Me? I was wearing shorts and a tshirt and wondering where I could get a refreshing beverage to cool off. The temperature outside was in the mid-50s. I thought everyone in Los Angeles was just so concerned with fashion that they were wearing the latest fads from the runway. After eight years of living in Los Angeles, I was that same guy – wearing gloves when the weather slipped below 60. Breaking out the sweatshirts in the mid-50s. Wearing full winter gear if it got anywhere below that.

I had grown accustomed to the weather. Amazing how the human body shifts it’s opinions of temperature over time as it gets acclimated to a new climate.

When I left Los Angeles, I returned to Pennsylvania for a few years and once again, found myself confused by the weather. It felt bitter cold at temperatures I used to think were gorgeous. As time went on though, I soon returned to my normal Pennsylvanian self. Now I find myself once again in a new climate – coping with the summertime humidity (we get it in Pennsylvania, but not quite as bad as we do here), finding it frosty when it dips below 60. Today it was in the low 50s and yet I felt like I might need to dust off my ski mask and snowball making gloves.

I miss the summertime already. Although my friends from up North are laughing at this post, I can promise you, it feels cold. Good news, it won’t be that many weeks until we hit our springtime, which comes much earlier than it does in Pennsylvania. So enjoy your snow while I continue to feel frozen like a popsicle. It won’t be long before I thaw out. Looking for the true San Antonio experience and want to learn what other feelings we have on the important issues in San Antonio?
