Looking for a job in San Antonio?
Today the U.S. Census Bureau opened its San Antonio office to begin preparing for the 2010 Census. The Bureau is looking for hundreds of temporary workers for the new office located at 7042 Alamo Downs Parkway, San Antonio, TX 78238. Pay rates start at $11.75/hour for the temporary jobs. Anyone interested should contact the U.S. Census Bureau’s Job Hotline at (866) 861-2010.
The U.S. Census happens every ten years and is mandated by U.S. Constitution (Article 1, Section 2). It helps determine Congressional allocations for each state as well as how much of certain funds are doled out to states by the Federal Government. It is required by law to participate and a great chance to help your city get its fair share of representation. The photo above is from a Hollerith Census Machine, developed by Herman Hollerith. It was used in 1890 to tabulate the results of the Census and took a year to finish its calculations, opposed to the eight years it took to finish counting the 1880 results. Herman’s early work was instrumental in bringing about early computers and his company was eventually part of what became IBM.
