What’s In A Name? The Genesis Of RErockstar.

Matt Stigliano playing rockstar.

A little history…

My name is Matt Stigliano, but people call me “RErockstar.” The name grew out of a desire to find a way to stand out from the crowd. To be myself in my new career as a real estate agent and to not just label myself “Matt Stigliano, guy who works for XYZ Real Estate.” In my past career, I was a rockstar. A b-list rockstar perhaps, and one who was always much bigger in Europe, but a rockstar nonetheless.

When I left the band, it wasn’t an easy choice. In the band; I enjoyed the travel, playing for crowds from 100-100,000, and hanging out with friends all over the world as I did it. I chose to leave as I felt I wasn’t giving the band my best. I had grown a bit robotic over the years. Wake up, eat, sound check, watch the opening band, play the same songs in the same order, have a beer, go to bed, wake up, and repeat. One of the band members compared it to living the movie Groundhog Day. Slight variations throughout the day, but overall – it was the same day.

Making a name for myself.

In trying to dream up something better than a website URL that contained the words “San Antonio” and “real estate,” I mulled over the idea of trying to combine my former career with my current career. My first post at AgentGenius was about the idea of combining “rockstar” and “real estate” and how my friend Brad Nix helped me see how it could be done.

So I starting testing out different combinations of words revolving around “rockstar” and “real estate.” Unfortunately for me, there are a lot of people out there that brand them as a rockstar in real estate. Of course, most of them are just hanging the name around their neck and are using it in terms of being the best, not an actual rockstar (although I’ve learned there’s a lot of former musicians in the real estate world). I was hoping to be able to use the full word “real estate,” but in the end had to settle for “RE” as a shortened version. I’m actually quite pleased with the choice, because as people have begun to know me as “RErockstar” (they key to it’s pronunciation lies in saying the first two as just letters and then adding “rockstar” at the end), it started to sound better the more people said it. It fit. I made the right choice.

BY far an away I think you made the right choice! I can’t imaging anything else. It’s part of what makes you – you.

Mike – I definitely think so too. When I went to BlogWorld Expo, I introduced myself as Matt a few times and then quickly added “RErockstar” – several people quickly replied “oh, you.”
