San Antonio First Time Home Buyer or Just Preparing Your Taxes?
Death, taxes, and keyword searches.
San Antonio is searching for info on the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit and based on the keywords being used, I have to wonder…are we preparing for a new wave of first time home buyers or just seeing a run up to April 15th, with buyers getting a head start with preparing their taxes?
Keyword searches involving phrases such as “can i use the home tax credit as a down payment?” would imply buyers searching for information so that they can buy before the tax credit expires. (Answer: Can you use the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit as a down payment?)
Keyword searches involving phrases such as “what paperwork is needed for homebuyers credit when filing taxes” are definitely geared more towards home buyers wanting to get the jump on preparing their taxes. If you’ve already bought a home and want to claim the tax credit, you should gather your HUD-1 settlement statement (so the information you’ll need to fill out the form – your Realtor® will be able to provide this to you if you don’t know where it is) and IRS Form 5405 (pdf format). I would also recommend speaking with your tax professional to be sure you’ve got the form filled in correctly and that you are eligible for the tax credit (you can get a lot of great information from the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit section of the IRS website).
