A personal post from me to you.
I wanted to let you know.
**UPDATE** – I realized I hadn’t updated this post and it may be confusing for anyone who happens upon it long after the fact (but I can never bring myself to just delete a post). I did return to real estate, much as I promised. It was a tough month and a half for me as I really missed the clients, friendships, and amazing relationships I had developed. Unfortunately, sometimes life gets in the way of things and in order to make the best, we have to make tough decisions. This was certainly one of them and one I hope I don’t have to make again.
Last week, April 30th, was the renewal date for my state-issued real estate license. I thought long and hard about it and having some current personal issues that I am trying to juggle along with real estate, I decided not to renew it. Your first thoughts are probably, wow, he gave up, but you’d be wrong with that thought. After much thought, I just knew I had to take action on some personal issues and while focusing on those, I would be unable to devote myself to my clients and my real estate business in the way I have pledged to do since the day I began.
I’ll probably detail all the thoughts in some future post (you know I often blog about personal things), but for now, my family needs me more than real estate needs me. I am already working on a timeline to renew my license and return to doing what I do best, but until then, I won’t be able to practice real estate. I will continue to blog when I can and I hope you’ll continue to follow along. You have all made this website what it is and we’re not done yet.
My current clients have been contacted and arrangements have been made to make sure they get the service and hard work that they typically expect from me. I will continue to be on Facebook, Twitter, as well as blogging sites like AgentGenius and ActiveRain. I wish all of you the best and thank those that helped me arrange and organize all of this, without them, this would have been much harder to pull off. Special thanks to the “Sisters That Sell” (Sheila Moran and Kristin Moran), Pat O’Brien, and Jeanna Martinez (my office mate who will be handling much of my business while I am gone).

Matt,
I wish you the best on the current personal issues you are facing. Please know that I’m a big fan of your passion for RE and blogging and your constant posting on DeedStreet as “rerockstar.” But even more, I am a big fan of “Matt,” the person I met in Las Vegas.
Good luck with everything. Talk to you soon.
Doug
Doug – Thanks. It will be sorted soon and I’ll be able to get back to doing what I love. It’s funny that you mention the word “passion.” Although a “buzzword” it seems, I truly do feel strongly – both about my business and the industry as a whole. When I decided I had had enough of the music industry, I really wanted to find something I could care about and enjoy that would challenge me. I definitely found that with real estate.
Thanks again Doug, it’s always nice to hear a few words of support from a friend.

I’m a big fan no matter what you are doing!
Wishing you all the best.
Not going to say “I’ll miss you” ’cause we’re both still going to be here, just doing different things.

@MikeMueller – Dont worry, I’ll be back soon. You know I could never leave real estate for too long.
You know I’m a big fan of you too! Actually working on a plan for when I come back the other day and one of the solid mentions was getting more neighborhoods up on my MuellerMap – time to show San Antonio the best.
I’m impressed. It’s not often you hear about a successful business person stepping back to dedicate himself to the most important thing – life. You’re a great example to many.
Alicia – It’s hard to remember what’s important sometimes with the way we all get wrapped up in our work. Even more so when it’s something you love doing.
Hopefully, I’ll get some things where I need them to be/want them to be and I can get back to what I’m good at.
Thanks for always stopping by and reading, it’s nice to see friendly faces.

Saw your comment on Whitney’s blog so I thought I’d come over here … kudos to you for keeping priorities where they should be. I’m guessing your ability to recognize when to step back makes you a better family man AND a better businessman.

Thanks Melissa. What makes it even better for me is that I am dying to get back…I have a particular hunger for it, so when I am ready for it, I will be really eager and enthusiastic, which never hurts!
I guess I should update this post to reflect the fact that I am back (and have been for sometime). Off to update it now.
